A contact lens prescription is different from a spectacle prescription. To order online you need one issued in the last 6 months by a registered optometrist or a registered optician with a contact lens permit. Tap a field on the example to see what it means.

Contact Lens Advice

  • Wash and dry your hands firstClean, dry hands before every insertion and removal.
  • Never sleep in your lensesUnless your optometrist has prescribed lenses approved for overnight wear.
  • Never reuse daily lensesA daily lens is single-use. Start each day with a fresh pair.

Daily, monthly or coloured: how to choose

Contact lenses differ in two ways: how often you replace them, and whether they correct vision, change eye colour, or both. Daily disposable lenses are worn once and thrown away, so there is no cleaning and no lens case. They suit occasional wear, sport, travel and sensitive eyes. Monthly lenses are cleaned and stored in fresh solution every night and replaced after 30 days of use, which costs less per day for regular wearers.

Coloured contact lenses come in daily and monthly versions, with or without power. A coloured lens is a medical device even at zero power, so it still needs a proper fitting and a valid prescription.

Contact lenses for astigmatism (toric)

If your prescription shows a cylinder (CYL) and axis value, you have astigmatism and need a toric lens, which is weighted to sit at the right angle on your eye. A standard spherical lens cannot correct it. Toric lenses are not yet sold in this online store. An OptiSaver optometrist can fit them and supply them at the outlet.

Caring for your lenses

Woman washing her hands with soap at a sink before handling her contact lenses

For monthly lenses, rub and rinse each lens with multipurpose solution, store it in fresh solution in a clean case, and replace the case regularly. Never top up old solution, and never use tap water or saliva. Saline rinses lenses but does not disinfect them. Rewetting drops made for contact lenses can ease dryness while you wear them. Ask your optometrist which solution suits your lens and your eyes.

Contact Lens FAQs

Can I buy contact lenses online in Malaysia?

Yes, from a registered optometry practitioner. Under the Malaysian Optical Council's online sale guidelines, contact lenses may be sold online only by registered optometrists or opticians, as top-up purchases for customers with a valid prescription. This store is run by Alpro OptiSaver's registered optometrists.

Do I need a prescription to buy contact lenses online?

Yes, for every lens, including zero-power coloured lenses. Your prescription must have been issued within the last 6 months by a registered optometrist or a registered optician with a contact lens permit. On the product page you confirm your eye examination and upload the prescription. If it is older, book an eye examination at an OptiSaver outlet first.

What is the difference between daily and monthly contact lenses?

Daily disposable lenses are worn once and thrown away, so they need no cleaning or case. Monthly lenses are cleaned and stored in fresh solution every night and replaced after 30 days of use, which costs less per day if you wear lenses every day.

What are toric contact lenses, and do I need them?

Toric lenses correct astigmatism. If your prescription includes a cylinder (CYL) and axis value, you need a toric lens rather than a standard spherical one. Toric lenses are not sold online here yet. An OptiSaver optometrist can fit and supply them at the outlet.

Are coloured contact lenses safe?

Yes, when they are genuine, properly fitted and cared for. A coloured lens is a medical device even with no power, so it needs a fitting, a valid prescription and the same hygiene as any other contact lens. Never share coloured lenses with anyone.

How long can I wear contact lenses each day?

Follow the wearing schedule your optometrist gives you, which depends on your eyes and your lens. Remove your lenses before sleeping unless they have been prescribed for overnight wear, and take them out if your eyes feel uncomfortable.

What should I do if my eyes become red, painful or irritated?

Remove your lenses straight away and do not put them back in. If redness, pain, blurred vision or discharge does not settle quickly, see a registered optometrist or a doctor. Please seek the advice of a medical practitioner or registered optometrist if you experience persistent symptoms or side effects.

Can I get an eye examination before ordering online?

Yes. OptiSaver's registered optometrists carry out eye examinations and contact lens fittings at OptiSaver outlets across Malaysia. You can book an appointment online, then reorder your lenses here with the prescription you receive.

Which contact lens solution should I use?

Use the multipurpose or disinfecting solution your optometrist recommends for your lens type. Use fresh solution every time and never top up old solution. Saline rinses lenses but does not disinfect them, and tap water should never touch your lenses or case.

Can I return or exchange contact lenses?

Contact Alpro Customer Service within 7 days of receiving your order (+606 792 1923 or customercare@alpropharmacy.com). Returns and exchanges follow the Alpro Return Policy. Check the power on the box before opening it, because opened lens packs cannot be reused.
