Together We Walk, Together We Build: 959 Million Steps and RM195,708.31 for Malaysia

From 1 to 31 August 2026, Malaysians and Alproeans came together through Alpro Group’s “Together We Walk, Together We Build” campaign, turning everyday steps into a collective movement for better health and a meaningful cause.

What started with a simple invitation to walk became something much bigger.

Over the course of one month, Malaysians came together to move more, build healthier habits and contribute towards a shared national goal.

The journey began with one symbolic number:

19,570,831 STEPS

Inspired by 31 August 1957, the historic date Malaysia achieved independence, the number became Alpro’s national walking target.

And Malaysians did not just reach it.

They went far beyond it.

From 19 Million Steps to a Journey to the Moon

The first 19,570,831-step target was achieved just three days after the campaign launched.

With Malaysians continuing to walk, Alpro then set a bigger challenge: 26 rounds of the original target, representing a symbolic journey to “Walk to the Moon.”

The 26-round target was achieved on 20 August 2026, an incredible 11 days ahead of the original 31 August deadline.

But Malaysians did not stop there.

By the end of the campaign, participants had collectively accumulated:

959,001,293 STEPS

Every morning walk. Every evening jog. Every extra flight of stairs. Every little decision to move more.

Together, these individual efforts became a remarkable national achievement.

Turning Every Step Into Something Bigger

The campaign was never only about counting steps.

To make the collective effort count beyond the walking challenge, Alpro Group committed RM195,708.31 to Alpro Foundation’s Growing Stars Project.

The contribution carries the same symbolic sequence as the campaign’s original 19,570,831-step target, turning the spirit of the challenge into support for a meaningful cause.

Alpro Group Co-Founder, Ph. Dr. Hiew Fei Tsong, presents a cheque for RM195,708.31 to Alpro Foundation CEO, Mr Ostwin Paw, in support of the Growing Stars Project.

Through the Growing Stars Project, Alpro Foundation supports underprivileged students by helping provide greater access to educational resources, assistance and opportunities.

Because every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and realise their potential.

Different starting points should never mean different possibilities.

By supporting education, we are not only helping students today. We are also investing in the future of Malaysia.

Nevertheless, Growing Stars is only one part of the work being done by Alpro Foundation. The Foundation supports various initiatives that aim to create meaningful and lasting impact for communities across Malaysia.

This Achievement Belongs to Every Malaysian

The 959,001,293 steps are not Alpro’s achievement alone.

They belong to every Malaysian and Alproean who took part.

Some contributed thousands of steps. Some contributed more. Some may have simply walked a little further than they normally would each day.

But every step counted.

“This achievement does not belong to Alpro. It belongs to every Malaysian who walked with us. Alpro created the platform, but Malaysians were the ones who took the steps, completed the goal and made this possible.”

Chief Pharmacist & Engagement Director, Alpro Group

The campaign showed us something simple but powerful: when individual efforts come together, they can create an impact much bigger than any one person could achieve alone.

Why 7,000 Steps?

The campaign also encouraged Malaysians to think differently about their daily movement.

While 10,000 steps is often mentioned as a daily target, health benefits can be seen at lower step counts too. A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis published in The Lancet Public Health found that around 7,000 steps a day was associated with meaningful health benefits compared with around 2,000 steps a day.

That is why Alpro chose 7,000 steps as a practical campaign goal.

But it was never about being perfect.

If you currently walk 2,000 steps a day, adding another 500 or 1,000 steps is already a step forward.

If 7,000 feels achievable, aim for it.

If not, start where you are and build from there.

Every step counts.

From Healthier Steps to a Stronger Future

“Together We Walk, Together We Build” started with a simple idea: encourage Malaysians to move more.

It ended with 959,001,293 steps, a completed national challenge and RM195,708.31 committed towards educational opportunities for underprivileged students.

The numbers tell one part of the story.

The bigger story is what happened behind them.

Thousands of people chose to walk.

Thousands of small actions came together.

And together, Malaysians turned those steps into something that could continue creating impact beyond the campaign itself.

As we look back on this journey, we want to say one thing to everyone who walked with us:

Thank You, Malaysia.

Thank you for every step, every walk and every effort to move a little more.

You helped prove that meaningful change does not always begin with something big.

Sometimes, it begins with one small step.

And when we take that step together, we can go much further.

Together We Walk. Together We Build.
